iit-roorkee-clarifies-mail-sent-to-gate-aspirants

After a bizarre email glitch from IIT Roorkee left many GATE 2025 aspirants scratching their heads, the institute has clarified and apologised for the technical glitch.

IIT Roorkee, the organising institute for this year’s GATE exam, had accidentally sent emails addressing candidates as "Dear IDLI CHUTNEY NO SAMBHAR," causing a mix of outrage and amusement online.

The unusual incident came to light when candidates shared screenshots of the email on social media platforms like Reddit and X. Many speculated whether the issue stemmed from a tampered database or server error.

While some applicants reported receiving the strange email, others said they did not, suggesting the problem affected only a subset of recipients.

One user took to X and tagged IIT Roorkee and Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, alleging racism in the email’s content. "IIT Roorkee team called me idly chutney no sambhar idk how to react but this is racist," read the post.

Another user joked, "Why hate Sambhar? Best part of the breakfast."

The email glitch has sparked a variety of reactions. While some users criticised the incident as a lapse in standards, others poked fun at the situation or even questioned the professionalism of the institute.
