The Padma Awards are the most significant civilian awards in India. On Saturday, excellence in different fields, ranging from literature and education to arts, science, and public services, was awarded. This year, the President approved 139 recipients in three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. among them, 30 were recognised for their achievements in the field of literature and education.

CATEGORY OF PADMA AWARDS

It has three annual categories of awards, namely,

  • Padma Vibhushan: For exceptional and distinguished service.

  • Padma Bhushan: For distinguished service of a high order.

  • Padma Shri: For distinguished service in any field.

  • There is also a single listing for one duo. The collective award is counted as an honour in this case.

LITERATURE AND EDUCATION HIGHLIGHTS

The awards were to honour the efforts of authors, teachers, journalists, and students who have contributed to the enrichment of society. Here is the list of 30 awardees in the literature and education category:

SELECTION PROCEDURE OF AWARDS

Recommendations are made through the Padma Awards Committee, a committee formed on an annual basis by the Prime Minister. The Secretary to the Cabinet and the heads of the other Departments, and other distinguished people make up this committee.

For approval, such recommendations are sought by the PM and the President after a short listing.

This year's Padma Awards bring out the fact that the government is committed to awarding outstanding contributions in diverse fields, with a special focus on literature and education.
