Number of medical colleges in India have increased in the recent years. In 2014,it was last calculated. This information was shared by Union Health Minister in Parliament.

As of now, the country has 731 medical colleges, a significant increase from the 387 that existed in 2014.

In addition to the rise in the number of colleges, there has been a substantial increase in the availability of medical seats. The number of undergraduate medical seats has surged from 51,348 to over 1 lakh, marking a 118% increase.

Postgraduate seats have also seen a 133% rise during the same period. Minister Nadda highlighted these developments during the discussion on demands for grants under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for the 2024-25 fiscal year.

"Under the leadership of PM Modi, the world's largest health scheme is being run in India," he stated.

The health budget has seen a significant boost, growing from Rs 33,278 crore in 2013-14 to Rs 90,958 crore today.
