Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak informed the Legislative Council that the rule of imposing a fine of Rs 5 lakh for giving up a medical seat in medical education institutions is no longer effective in Uttar Pradesh.

This rule has been abolished by the Yogi government. Earlier, this fine had to be paid for leaving the medical seat.

Earlier, for giving up a medical seat, a fine of Rs 5 lakh had to be paid. He gave this information to the House in response to a question asked by SP's Man Singh Yadav during the Question Hour.

Pathak said that if doctors are being harassed in any medical institution, then it will be investigated. Many times, for personal reasons, the next doctor student leaves PG studies, hence the rule of fine has been abolished.
