CBSE Class 11, 12 exam format changes, focus on concept application questions
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced significant changes in the examination format for Classes 11 and 12, aiming to enhance students' competency in applying concepts to real-life scenarios.
CBSE officials, announced that starting from the 2024-25 session, the examination pattern for Classes 11 and 12 will feature a higher percentage of competency-based questions.
These questions will assess students' ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations, aligning with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
While there are significant alterations for Classes 11 and 12, CBSE clarified that there will be no modifications to the exam format for Classes 9 and 10, maintaining consistency across different grade levels.
The adjustment entails an increase in the percentage of competency-focused questions, such as multiple-choice questions (MCQs), case-based questions, and source-based integrated questions, from 40 to 50 percent.
In contrast, the percentage of constructed response questions, including short and long answers, has been reduced from 40 to 30 percent.
