Jharkhand closes schools, Chandigarh revises timings amid cold wave
With the cold wave gripping parts of northern India, Jharkhand and Chandigarh have announced measures to ensure student safety during winter.
While Jharkhand has closed schools for younger children, Chandigarh has altered school schedules to cope with the weather.
UP TO CLASS 8 CLOSED IN JHARKHAND
The Jharkhand government has decided to close schools for students from kindergarten to Class 8 between January 7 and 13, 2025.
This applies to all school types, including government, private, and minority institutions. The decision comes as temperatures in the state dip below 6 degrees Celsius, with Khunti recording a chilling 5.3 degrees Celsius.
However, students in Classes 9 to 12 are not affected, and their classes will continue as usual. The state’s School Education and Literacy Department issued this notification citing the cold wave conditions.
CHANDIGARH ALTERS SCHOOL TIMINGS
The Chandigarh Administration has revised school timings for government, government-aided, and recognised private schools.
Physical classes for students up to Class 8 have been suspended, but online classes will take place from 9 am onwards.
For students in Classes 9 to 12, physical classes will now begin at 9:30 am and end by 3:30 pm. Schools conducting pre-board classes have been allowed to start at 9 am. Staff timings can also be adjusted to suit these changes.
