Schools closed in multiple states due to intense heatwave
Due to increasing heat waves many schools have been closed down by Govt’s order.
With a severe heatwave sweeping across various parts of India, several states have announced summer vacations for all government and private schools to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.
PUNJAB
The Punjab government has preponed the summer vacations for school students due to the ongoing heatwave. The summer break will now start from May 21 and last until June 3, 2024.
HARYANA
The Haryana Directorate of School Education has declared summer vacations in all government and private schools from June 1 to June 30, 2024. The notice was issued on May 17, directing district and block education officers to ensure compliance. The Haryana school timings have also been changed from May 18 to May 31, 2024. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued orange alerts for severe heatwaves in southern parts of the state.DELHI
According to the Delhi school academic calendar, summer vacation in the national capital began on May 11 and will continue until June 30. This year, the city has declared a total of 50 days for the summer break, considering the high temperatures.
MADHYA PRADESH
The state education board of Madhya Pradesh has announced summer vacations for all schools from May 1 to June 15. The early start to the vacation is a preventive measure against the extreme heat affecting the region.
RAJASTHAN
In Rajasthan, the education department has announced summer vacations from May 17 to June 30 for all schools. Additionally, schools have been instructed not to hold any extra classes during this period to prevent students from being exposed to extreme heat.
METEOROLOGICAL DEPARTMENT WARNINGS
The IMD has predicted a heatwave in several regions including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, East Rajasthan, Gujarat, Saurashtra, and Kutch.
