Kashmir: IUST Ranks Among India's Top 200 Universities
The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) in Awantipora has made significant strides, securing a place among India's top universities and receiving a four-star grading from the Institution Innovation Council (IIC) for three consecutive years.
With a research and entrepreneurship focus, IUST has transformed from a teaching institution to one focused on research and entrepreneurship, with 260 PhD awards in the last four years, a significant increase from 16 awards earlier.
This recognition is further bolstered by the expertise and contributions of IUST faculty in the field of Earth Sciences, solidifying the university's reputation for academic excellence with two distinguished faculty members added in the top Earth Science scientists in India: Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo: Vice Chancellor of IUST, ranking 32nd nationally and Prof. Shakeel Ahmed: Professor at the Disaster Risk Reduction Centre, IUST, ranking 34th in India.
The university's Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development (CIED) has received 120 innovative ideas, supporting 20. CIED aims to change the youth's mindset towards innovation and entrepreneurship, addressing unemployment challenges in the region.
IUST has seen a 50% growth in admissions, with 1679 students enrolled this year, up from 1050 last year. The university's infrastructure has been augmented, focusing on community development, with a sprawling 205-acre campus overlooking the River Jhelum, situated 28 km from Srinagar in the Pulwama district of South Kashmir.
It has 77 patents and 2391 publications to its credit, and its Vice Chancellor, Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, has nearly 37 years of academic experience and has received several national and international awards.
Under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, IUST is poised for further growth, emphasizing innovation and entrepreneurship among youth.
