Medical Counselling 2025: 1.15 Lakh MBBS Seats Open in First Round
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has officially released the seat matrix for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2025, initiating the first round of counselling for MBBS and BDS admissions.
With 12.36 lakh candidates having qualified, the competition is fierce, as only 1,15,900 MBBS seats are available across government, private, and other medical colleges nationwide.
This means that merely one in ten candidates will secure a place in a medical programme this year. Candidates can review the detailed seat matrix at the MCC's official website, mcc.nic.in. The pressure is immense as aspirants vie for these limited opportunities, underscoring the importance of strategic preparation and timely application.
The seat matrix covers a total of 775 medical colleges offering MBBS programmes under the 15 per cent All India Quota (AIQ). These institutions are categorised by management type, including over 400 government colleges, 32 private colleges, 13 government (society) colleges, 44 society-run colleges, and more than 250 trust-run colleges. The distribution reflects the diverse management systems governing the medical education landscape across the country, highlighting the varied options available to candidates.
