Education Ministry Mandates Use of Zoho for All Official Work
In a significant step toward promoting digital self-reliance, the Ministry of Education has made it mandatory for all departments to use the Zoho Office Suite for official documentation and collaboration. This move supports the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and aims to reduce dependence on foreign software solutions.
A memorandum from the Department of Higher Education outlines the transition to Zoho as part of a broader strategy to position India as a product-driven digital economy. All ministry staff are required to adopt Zoho tools, with technical support available via the CMIS/NIC division.
Zoho Office Suite has been fully integrated with NIC email services, allowing users to access the platform without separate logins or installations. The integration is expected to enhance document security, enable smoother collaboration, and streamline official workflows.
Officials described the mandate as a move toward a secure, scalable, and sovereign IT ecosystem. By adopting domestically developed software, the ministry seeks to encourage homegrown innovation and reduce reliance on imported digital infrastructure.
The directive- digitally signed by Nishant Upadhyaya, Under Secretary to the Government of India—has been circulated to senior ministry officials, including the personal secretaries to the Education Minister and Ministers of State.
