Historic Inclusion: B.Tech and Integrated Course Students of Guwahati University Granted Voting Rights in PG Union Elections.
Until now, these students had no voting rights in the union elections, despite being an integral part of the academic community.
This achievement comes as a result of a sustained signature campaign and collective movement led under the able leadership of the Guwahati University AASU Unit. On 6th September 2025, students submitted a memorandum to the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, voicing their long-pending demand for equal participation in democratic student processes.
The university administration, after due consideration, has officially accepted the demand and ensured arrangements for these students to cast their votes in the upcoming elections.
The signature campaign witnessed overwhelming participation from students across different departments, reflecting a united voice for inclusion and representation.
A detailed memorandum with thousands of student signatures was handed over to the Vice Chancellor, following which the decision was formally announced.
This development has been hailed as a historic success for the Guwahati University AASU Unit, ensuring that B.Tech and five-year integrated course students now enjoy equal democratic rights alongside their peers.
University authorities have assured that this decision will be implemented smoothly, marking a significant step towards strengthening student democracy on campus.
